The Canadian national team defeated the United States team in the final and claimed the title of champion of the Pan American Badminton Teams Championships, which took place last week at the Sports Center 2 of VIDENA.
The Canadians won 3-0 against the Americans and confirmed that they are the tournament favorites, making it clear that they will return in July looking for another title at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Brazil won the bronze medal after defeating Cuba. Peru finished in sixth place after losing 3-1 to Mexico in a match for the fifth place.
BEST REPRESENTATIVES
Joshua Hurlburt Yu and Josephine Wu stood out in the Canadian team. They won a doubles match against American duo Phillip Chew and Breana Chi 2-1 (15-21;21-18; 21-13).
In singles, Brittney Tam and Brian Yang also stood out and defeated Natali Chi and Andrew Zhang, respectively in straight sets.
Badminton is one of the 39 sports competing during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, between July 26 and August 11, at the Sports Center 3 of the VIDENA. Para badminton competitions will also take place in the same venue during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, between August 23 and September 1.
