The countdown to the Lima 2019 Games is entering its final stretch and, as the days go by, more details of the Pan American Games Opening Ceremony are coming to light. Such is the case of the official song that will be composed by Pedro Suárez-Vértiz, a successful Peruvian composer that was selected by the Organizing Committee.
The Peruvian artists announced the news on his social media. “I’m very happy to share with you that I’ve been given one of the most important tasks of my career: composing Lima 2019’s official song. I’m immensely proud to be a part of the most important multi-sports event in the continent,” wrote the composer on his Facebook.
He said that his daughter, María José, will sing the vocal harmonies of the song that will travel the world. The singer also encouraged Peruvians to be great hosts during the most important sports event in the Americas. “I hope we can sing it together in harmony, proving that in Peru #WeAllPlay,” he said.
It’s the second time that a Peruvian is in charge of composing the official song for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. The first artist was the successful Gian Marco Zignago, who composed the chords for the Guadalajara 2011 Games.
