FOOTBALL 7-A-SIDE AND WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL DRAW FIXTURES FOR LIMA 2019

Football 7-a-side, a sport for people with cerebral palsy (CP), and wheelchair basketball are among the two sports that will garner the most attention during the Parapan American Games. Therefore, this morning, the draws for both fixtures were carried out at a ceremony presided by Lima 2019 Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus.

Likewise, the Lima 2019 sports director, Gustavo San Martín, attended the draw alongside the international technical delegate of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Steve Bach, and the international technical delegate of the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football, Paulo Cruz.

First, the Football 7-a-side fixture was made known. Peru will debut against Brazil on August 24 at 09:30. Next, Venezuela will face Argentina (11:30) and finally, the United States against Colombia (13:30). There will be five rounds in the first stage, and the top two team of the table will play for the gold, while the third and fourth will play for the bronze.

The rugby court, located in the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, will be adapted to be the stage of all the Football 7-a-side matches. The medal ceremony will be held on August 31, after the final match of the football competition.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

Wheelchair basketball, on the other hand, will consist of two groups of four teams each, both in the men’s and women’s categories. The first stage will be in a round-robin format, and top two teams will qualify for the semifinals. The winners will compete for the gold medal on August 31.

In men’s, Peru was placed in Group B along with Brazil, Puerto Rico and the United States. Meanwhile, Canada, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico will play in Group A. While in women’s, the Peruvian national team will compete against the United States, Chile and Brazil for Group A, while Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia will face each other in Group B.

The first wheelchair basketball match will be played on August 24 at Sports Center 1 in VIDENA. The United States, current Parapan American champion in both categories, will come to Lima 2019 to defend its title. This Para sport is one of the 13 that will qualify the winning team for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
