Jenny Ventocilla is a 47-year-old member of the national Para badminton team who will participate in the Parapan American Games that will be starting on August 23.
She found a new motivation in this Para sport after an accident caused her to lose one of her lower limbs.
“I am very happy that the Parapan American Games are about to start, because neither age or an impairment are an impediment to move forward, says Jenny, who emphasizes that “our goal is to proudly represent Peru in the Parapan American Games.”
Para badminton will start on August 29 in Sport Center 3 in the National Sports Village (VIDENA) and Jenny, along with the national team, has been training twice a day from Monday through Friday.
Jenny is currently staying in VIDENA as part of her training, which represents an additional sacrifice. “I am proud of what we are doing, because we stop doing many of our regular activities and also leave our families. I have two children and know that every sacrifice has a reward, for me it is the podium,” emphasizes Jenny.
The Parapan American Games will be a turning point, not only for sports in Peru, but also for society itself. “I hope that parents understand that having an impairment does not mean that someone cannot play sports. I want to ask everyone who has an impairment to not be afraid, because this will help you improve as a person and succeed in every aspect of life,” mentions Jenny.
Tickets for the Parapan American Games went on sale on Monday, June 3. National athletes are counting on the unconditional encouragement of the local fans to go for the gold.
“We want them to come and support us because they will see something that they have never seen before, we want everyone to support us in every possible way, to find the stadiums full of people,” concluded Jenny Ventocilla.
