Lima 2019 gave an exhibition of football 5-a-side, wheelchair basketball and other sports like tai chi, aerotón (aerobics marathon), boxing, capoeira and taekwondo in the Plaza de Armas of La Perla, as part of the World Physical Activity Day.
To celebrate this occasion, people experienced a sporting environment, in which Milco was also present. The Lima 2019 mascot invited the attendees to enjoy the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Additionally, the population was informed that the La Perla and Bellavista municipalities are in coordination to guide the athletes through the lanes that will take them to Callao’s Sports Regional Village. “We’ll welcome them as it is appropriate,” commented Aníbal Jara, Mayor of La Perla.
The Callao’s Sports Regional Village will host the volleyball, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo and racquetball competitions during the Pan American Games; while the Parapan American ones will hold goalball, Para taekwondo and sitting volleyball.
Karin Guerrero, a Callao neighbor, congratulated the fostering of sports among the youngest and said that “we’re so proud of hosting the Lima 2019 Games in our country”.
“It’s great that sports activities are always organized for neighbors to practice them; like right now, dancing de-stresses us completely,” added Gisella Ballesteros, another neighbor who participated of the Aerotón for over three hours.
On his part, José a 10-year-old boy, from the Admiral Miguel Grau School, confided that this was his first time kicking the ball blindfolded when he practiced football 5-a-side.
It was a fun day full of sports where neighbors of the La Perla district and visitors alike shared a moment with Milco, who continues to promote the integration and values that represent the Games through sport.
