In the midst of Fair Play Day, Panam Sports, Lima 2019 and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), announced the anti-doping course for sports physicians (Physician’s Tool Kit), which will be held for the first time in Spanish. This course will grant WADA official certification to approximately 200 Peruvian physicians.
The online course will be available in WADA official website: https://adel.wada-ama.org, free of charge by simply signing up. This key course will remain a legacy for all Spanish-speaking countries since it is a fundamental tool to prevent doping in sports.
In Peru, approximately 200 sports-related physicians will benefit from the anti-doping course which will allow them to obtain WADA official certification.
Meanwhile the Peruvian Anti-doping Commission (CONAD), in preparation for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, will facilitate an anti-doping online course “Road to Lima 2019” aimed at the Peruvian delegation so they are aware of the rules and regulations and avoid the use of prohibited substances.
Athletes will be able to take the course free of charge before the Lima 2019 Games in order to be informed about penalization risks. The “Road to Lima 2019” course will be available in the IPD website (online campus).
Lima 2019 organization is committed to inform athletes, ahead of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, about the anti-doping program and the harmful effects of doping in their bodies.
Anti-doping kits
On the other hand, in upcoming days, 2800 blood and urine anti-doping kits specially prepared for Lima 2019 will arrive to Peru. These kits will be used for the tests during the Games.
Lima 2019 is committed to informing the athletes and Para athletes competing in the Pan American and Parapan American Games about the list of prohibited substances which will be published by the end of April in the organization official website. All the information concerning the anti-doping course will be available on the Lima 2019 website. The content will be interactive and available for download.
Available application
During the Pan American and Parapan American Games, an application for searching prohibited substances on medications sold in Peru will be available as a way to prevent athletes, coaches, physicians and the public.
The Pan American Village will have an educational stand at the dining hall, where athletes will play interactive games that will help them to learn and strengthen their anti-doping knowledge by playing games.
During Lima 2019, the anti-doping sample analysis will take place at a laboratory located in Montreal, Canada, currently accredited by the World Anti-doping Agency.
All in all, Peru leads the way on the fight against doping in sports thanks to the test plans and through the performance of its educational program. In just 3 years Peru went from level 3 to 2, positioning itself next to Chile and Uruguay's anti-doping programs which are over 5 years old.
