Lima 2019 is getting closer and the excitement for the Games is spreading to the rest of the city, not only the venue districts. And to continue promoting this great event, Milco visited the “Actívate Victoria” event carried out in Krumdieck park, where mayor of La Victoria George Forsyth, children, young people and adults from this district gathered together.
Forsyth highlighted the importance of organizing the Games in our capital. “Expectations are high because the Games will stimulate the development of sports and will instill values in young people.”
Even though La Victoria will not house a competition venue, the mayor said that they will help to spread the word about the Games. “Through our communication strategy, we are going to promote the Pan American and Parapan American Games because it’s going to encourage kids to play sports,” he stated.
Regarding the Games’ legacy, Forsyth highlighted that once the Lima 2019 Games conclude, all the facilities will be available for use. “What we need in Peru is infrastructure so that kids can play sports. It’s great that all the districts will be able to use them,” he added.
The former goalkeeper explained the importance of playing sports and what it meant to him. “Sports teach discipline and improve health, that is why I always tell children and young people to get out of their houses, to enjoy this stage of their lives. They need to be active and play sports; nothing has made me happier in life than sports,” he said.
Boxer Luis Miranda, who wants to secure his quota in the Pan American Games, also participated in this event. “The Qualifiers in Nicaragua will take place on April 2. I participated in Guadalajara 2011 and I’m motivated to compete again, especially if it’s here in Lima,” said Miranda, who expects to compete in the 69 kg category.
Milco, the Games official mascot, attended the event as part of the advertising strategy for 2019, that seeks to encourage inclusion and to spread the values of the Games, such as the unity of a continent and of everyone through sports.
