The Peruvian Men´s Sitting volleyball is training daily to not only go for the gold, but to also prove that they can shine in the Parapan American Games that will be starting next August 23.
This group of people is an example of perseverance and overcoming limitations, and they expect the Parapan American Games to represent a change in society.
Faustino Cuadros, libero of the national team, and one of the very best at this position, assured that, “the team´s performance will show the audience what we do, not only as athletes but in our day-to-day lives to succeed.”
Also, Jhon Cordova, the national team´s setter, emphasized that the spectators “will see that there are no limits to what we can do.” “I am certain that there are people at home that perhaps don´t know that this sport exists,” he added.
Giving it their all
It won´t be long until the members of the Peruvian Sitting volleyball team represent our country from August 23 to 28, in the Callao Regional Sports Center.
“Defending Peru is extraordinary and there is no reason for us to fear anyone, because we are all the same. I start thinking about the games and I know that we will rise to the occasion,” stated Victor Arias, who is a hitter, and hopes that his spikes carry the national team to victory.
“It is wonderful to know that we are not alone, that there will always be people cheering for us and this motivates us to do better,” emphasized Faustino Cuadros.
It will be the first time that Jhon Cordova represents a combined national team and he feels very excited. “We will try to do our very best to reach the podium, because that´s what we are working for and everyone will realize that we can achieve anything, nothing is impossible.”
Sitting volleyball will be one of the Para sports that will take place in the Parapan American Games. It is played in a 10 by 6 meter court with a net of 1.15 meters (for men) and 1.05 meters (for women) height.
This Para sport has some similarities to conventional volleyball regarding its rules: there are six players on the court, each team can touch the ball up to three times and the same rotations. One of the main differences is that that the athletes´ hips must always touch the ground. If they don't do this, it is considered a fault.
The national team is asking the public in Callao to attend the Callao Regional Sports Center from August 23 to 28. “We need and wish for their support to succeed and win the gold,” concluded Victor Arias.
