The “Soy Lima 2019” Campaign, carried out at the 1133 Santísima Virgen de Fátima school in the district of San Luis, promoted physical activity among students as a healthy lifestyle habit under the regulatory framework of the Ministry of Education.
“Many things are channeled through sports, and one of those things is exercise. Sometimes, they don’t have enough space and our playground is small, but to them it’s big,” said Tania Jorge, the school principal.
Silvia Guzmán, the Physical Education teacher, was in charge of leading the exercise, which is one of the activities that they enjoy the most. “They like Physical Education a lot, and it’s important for them to play sports and carry out recreational activities from an early age, but always while following the rules.”
After exercising, students enjoyed a socio-cultural show prepared by Lima 2019 as part of the campaign, which aims to promote Olympic and Paralympic values through sports.
“Sports are friendship, camaraderie. When playing sports, physical activity must come before winning. We are an inclusive school, we have children with impairments. That’s why one of the values we teach them the most is respect, because we are all equal,” stressed Jorge.
“Values help in the comprehensive education of children, and it’s important for them to develop their values from a young age and to apply them to their daily life,” added Guzmán.
San Luis is one of the districts of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, and, as of July, the school will have sports as its main focus.
“All our learning activities revolve around sports. We are the hosts and I think these activities are wonderful, because the kids need to know everything about the Pan American and Parapan American Games,” concluded the school principal.
