A FASTER CONSTRUCTION WORK PROGRESS IN MODERN VILLA EL SALVADOR SPORTS CENTER

Including the Engineering, Procurement and Construction processes, there is a 58% progress in the construction of Villa El Salvador Sports Center (VES), which will welcome Gymnastics and Karate competitions during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games; and Boccia and Wheelchair Rugby during the Parapan American Games, according to the deadlines and the established schedule.

The sport center is located on a 49,000 m2 area which comprises two mega structures: one for competitions and another one for training. The main structure is made out of concrete and metallic structures. It has four areas with retractable stands for over 5,000 people, accessible areas for people with impairments, as well as accessible toilets, changing and dressing rooms available for athletes during competition.

The second structure is entirely metallic and will be used as a warm-up area before the above-mentioned sports competitions. Both constructions are independent. This allows to make progress simultaneously.

In the next few days, the structures and main beams bearing the weight of the sports center roof will be completed. Similarly, the precinct intended for the warm-up fields will be built and after that, the floor, finishings and venue equipment will be completed.

Such progress represent a milestone towards the project’s final delivery, which is scheduled to be completed in May. This way, there will be enough time to test the venues before the beginning of the Pan American Games scheduled for July 26.

The Sports Center, located between Pastor Servilla and 1ro de Mayo avenues, is an important legacy for sports development, which people living in the south of Lima will be able to enjoy after the biggest multi-sport party of the continent.

Villa El Salvador and Lima city, in general, celebrate the construction of the Sports Center in this district because it encourages the practice of sports among children, young people and adults, who will have access to these facilities to practice sports.

Legacy for Peru

After the Lima 2019 Games, the Sports Center will remain as a legacy for sports such as Gymnastics, Volleyball, Sitting Volleyball, Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Handball, Wheelchair Rugby, Futsal, Fencing, Badminton, Para Badminton, Wrestling, Karate, Table Tennis and Para table Tennis. Neighbors and elite athletes will use these facilities.

During the Pan American Games, this Sports Center will welcome the Gymnastics competitions and the Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics disciplines; as well as Karate competitions in the Kumite and Kata disciplines. Peru has many chances to win medals in this sport. Among our top athletes we have Alexandra Grande, Lima 2019 Ambassador, considered Top Ten in Kumite worldwide within her category.
