Last Tuesday night, the President of Lima Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, the Official Mascot of the Pan American and Parapan American Games Milco, and the Lima 2019 Ambassadors Pilar Jáuregui, Pedro Pablo de Vinatea and Israel Hilario attended the ceremony in which the best 2018 Para athletes were awarded.
Likewise, the President of National Paralympic Association of Peru Luisa Villar, the Peruvian World Cup football player Aldo Corzo participated in this ceremony which took place in the auditorium at School Santa María Marianistas of Surco. Jorge Arcela (Shooting Para sport) was awarded as the best Para athlete of the year in Peru.
The retired PNP Sub officer won the bronze medal per teams at the Châteauroux 2018 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in France, in the event of 10 m air pistol. He also won a gold and silver medals at the First International Open in Colombia.
Carlos Neuhaus, the President of Lima 2019 awarded Pilar Jáuregui as the best athlete of the year in women’s category. Pilar is the Lima 2019 Ambassador and the Pan American and South American champion. Carlos Felipa of Para athletics competition was awarded as the best athlete 2019 in men’s category.
Likewise, Rubí Fernández of Para badminton competition was awarded as the stand-out Para Athlete in women’s category 2018. Manuel Navarro was awarded in Para taekwondo competition in men’s category. During the ceremony, Giuliana Poveda was awarded as the best Youth Para Athlete in women’s category 2018. Jesús Castillo of Para athletics competition was also awarded as the best Youth Para Athlete in men’s category. Besides, awards were given to the football 5-a-side team as the best Para sport team.
At the beginning of the ceremony, delegations from Para swimming, boccia, wheelchair tennis, shooting Para sport, Para badminton, Para athletics, football 5-a-side, goalball, judo, Para powerlifting, Para taekwondo and sitting volleyball were awarded. All delegations and athletes train to represent the Peruvian colors for the Parapan American Games to be held on August 23.
