PAN AMERICAN TORCH ARRIVES IN NAZCA

In its historic first tour through Peru and after visiting Arequipa, the Pan American Torch arrived in the city of Nazca, now the seventh city to welcome the torchbearers with open arms.

A total of 15 people participated in the torch relay; among them are Junior Abarca Rodriguez, a 28-year-old athlete that represented Peru and reached the seventh place in the 20 K race in Brussels, Belgium; and Alfredo Cafferatta Alvarado, former member of the Athletics national team who obtained first and second place in the 2005 and 2009 marathons, respectively. They were entrusted with bringing the torch to the historic city of Cahuachi in Nazca.

In addition, César Gamarra Dulanto, a 33-year-old accomplished instructor of four martial arts styles, had the honor of carrying the Pan American Flame in the impressive Cantalloc aqueducts.

There were 11 torchbearers in the city of Nazca. Among them stood out Rafael Cueto, an 84-year-old cyclist who initiated the relay in the Main Square, and Mario Lopa Bolívar, an 81-year-old former football player from the Municipal Sports Club, who brought the relay run to an end. They both received enthusiastic applause from the citizens of Nazca, on account of these athletes' prolific careers.

The Pan American Torch, which has been in our country for six days, will continue its journey through Ica on Tuesday afternoon.
