Huánuco is the city where the most people have welcomed the Pan American Torch, whose journey across Peru has reached its eighth consecutive day.
Forty torchbearers were chosen to carry the torch with the Flame that lights us all along the main streets and avenues of Huánuco. They went over a total of 7 kilometers. The starting point was the outdoors of Heraclio Tapia stadium. The torch passed by Hermilio Valdizán National University, Calicanto Bridge and the Huallaga River, to arrive at the Main Square of Huánuco.
One highlight was the participation of Judith Toribio Lavado, an outstanding former runner and one of the most successful athletes from Huánuco. She was cheered loudly by the citizens at Calicanto Bridge.
Francisco Pardavé Meneses, a volunteer fireman and the last torch bearer, also participated in this event. He had the honor of lighting the cauldron at the Main Square. Thus, he played the main role in the grand finale of this celebration, which also had the main local authorities in attendance.
The Torch is expected to arrive in Lima on July 26; meanwhile, it will continue its journey through Peru.
