The Apóstol San Pedro school in San Luis showed their excitement for the Lima 2019 Games. More than 500 pre-school, elementary and high-school students welcomed the Lima 2019 official mascot, Milco, with a huge banner showing the slogan “Let’s All Play” and a balloon arch.
We can already feel the excitement for the Pan American and Parapan American Games thanks to the campaign “Soy Lima 2019”.
“Sports promote values and raise awareness among people and the community. Without sports we may run the risk of young people losing their way,” stated Father Arturo Alcos, school promoter.
The practice of several sports, such as football, gymnastics, handball and karate, is promoted at this school. Siblings Patricia and Ricardo Velásquez practice karate and have won many competitions representing their school. They received the applause and recognition of their classmates. “Karate teaches us values such as friendship and respect for our opponents,” said Patricia. Ricardo pointed out: “I like sports because they make us better every day.”
“Our students have a lot of potential for sports. They have to learn that to achieve a goal, you must be disciplined,” expressed David Rosado, Physical Education teacher, who was proud of the children’s good behavior during the socio-cultural show.
The children paid close attention to the socio-cultural show, which is part of the campaign “Soy Lima 2019” to promote a life experience based on sports.
“It was a great opportunity to promote the Pan American and Parapan American Games among our students, and it helped the children to reaffirm their values. Everyone can practice sports, including people with an impairment,” indicated School Principal Marisol Calsina.
In this way, Lima 2019 continued its tour seeking to promote the Olympic and Paralympic values. “If we want healthy young people, we must teach them to practice sports since childhood. I would like to invite all parents to encourage and motivate their children to play sports,” said Father Arturo.
