Thirty days away from the Lima 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony on July 26, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima delivered the Armendariz Viaduct, one of the roads that will ease traffic during the largest multi-sport event of the continent.
The Armendariz Viaduct, almost two kilometers long, located between the districts of Miraflores and Barranco, will complement the urban design of the coastal road and improve traffic flow and road connectivity during the Games.,It will also remove the detour currently needed to make a turn near Barranquito beach.
The President of Peru, Martin Vizcarra, the Mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz and the President of the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee of Lima, Carlos Neuhaus attended the delivery ceremony where they cut a inaugural ribbon —as a symbolic gesture— to deliver this important road.
“Lima 2019 is the most important sports event of the Americas. Therefore, we have a great opportunity now, not only to improve the sports results of our national delegation achieved during past Games, but also to improve our infrastructure. Impressive infrastructure has been developed for the sports events but also for the gradual improvement of communication through transit flows, and such is the case of this road.”
The viaduct is part of the circuit, which will connect competition and accommodation venues to other places during the Lima 2019 Games. This is also the case of roads located between Costa Verde and Rafael Escardó avenues, and Jirón Virú in San Miguel, and Los Heroes and Pachacutec avenues in Lima Sur, etc. The Municipality of Lima has committed to make possible these improvements.
On the other hand, Mayor Muñoz highlighted the importance of Lima 2019 Games as a driving force for the development of infrastructure projects that will remain as a permanent legacy for the City of Lima and all Peruvians.
“Today is a special day, 30 days before the Lima 2019 Games, we are delivering this viaduct which will help improving road connectivity. It will allow for a better vehicle flow at the Costa Verde and, therefore, it will help providing services to delegations and people during the Lima 2019 Games. But, above all, it will be an important legacy for our city.”
