The Sports Center 2 of VIDENA, one of the main scenarios of Lima 2019, will be hosting tomorrow the badminton Pan American Mixed Team Continental Championships, the last tournament granting points for the world ranking and that will define pairs competing at the Pan American Games.
Teams from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, United States and Peru will compete for a medal in this continental tournament.
The event was introduced this noon in a press conference with the participation of Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee and Gonzalo Castillo, President of the Peruvian Badminton Federation.
“This is a big opportunity to compete in one of the Pan American Games venues and bring success to your countries. Your will be able to visit VIDENA and witness our preparations for this big sport celebration. We are doing all this for you, the athletes”, stated Neuhaus during the competitors' welcome.
“The Federation requested to be the host of this championship since it is the last scoring championship for Lima 2019. The Lima 2019 Pan American Games Organizing Committee has provided us its support which has been quite significant to hold this tournament”, pointed out Gonzalo Castillo, President of the Federation.
The Peruvian team is composed of 16 badminton players, including Daniela Macías, Dánica Nishimura, Inés Castillo, Paula La Torre, Daniel La Torre, Diego Mini, José Guevara, among others. All of them won medals in the South American Championship held in Peru last year.
Among the badminton stars participating will be the Canadian Jason Anthony Ho-Shue, who ranked second in the Americas and was part of the mixed team that won in 2017 in Santo Domingo ( Dominican Republic).
The Pan American event will start tomorrow and be held until Sunday in the badminton courts, at the Sports Center 2. Competitions will start at 09:00.
