We are now closer than ever to the biggest multi-sport event in the continent Peru has ever hosted. On July, Lima and Peru will become the capital of Sports in the Americas by welcoming 6680 athletes from 41 countries of the continent.
The Peruvian delegation will have a central role in the competitions as the Pan American and Parapan American Games host with the most athletes in an international competition. The teams are being defined. Particularly in shooting and baseball, sports which have already appointed the athletes that will represent Peru in Lima 2019.
Baseball will take place in the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, where the following pitchers will be : Jonathan Farías, Andrés Hamamoto, José Herrera, Ken Ishihara, Edgar Paredes, Gianpierre Reaño, Jorge Siviriche, Alex Takano, Alonso Tenya, Jesús Vargas and Kevin Yamamoto.
As catchers: Ignacio Castro and Jorge Pastor. Outfields: Giancarlo Kanashiro, Daniel Liu, Csaba Rojas, José Sánchez-Navarrete, Daniel Shimura and César Vásquez. Infields: Roberto Ayarza, Jin Ishihara, Alexandre Moromizato, Diego Uezu and Susumu Yoza.
Additionally, the groups have already been defined; in Group A Peru has been place alongside Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. While Group B has Argentina, Cuba, Canada and Colombia. The competition will go from July 29 to August 4. On the first day of Group A (July 30), Peru will face Dominican Republic while Puerto Rico will play against Nicaragua. The next day Peru will play Puerto Rico and will close the first phase on August 1, with Nicaragua while Puerto Rico will face Dominican Republic. The best two will later play for the medals from August 2 to August 4.
Shooting
The Peruvian Shooting Federation provided the list with the athletes that will compete in the Lima 2019 Games. 12 athletes will compete in precision shooting. The list for those competing in shotgun is still pending.
So far the athletes competing are:
Shotgun 3x40: Sara Vizcarra, Karina Rodríguez, Cristian Morales and Daniel Vizcarra.
Air Riffle: Sara Vizcarra, Lucía Cruz, Cristian Morales and Daniel Vizcarra.
Pistol: Brianda Rivera, Liz Carrión, Marko Carrillo, Kevin Altamirano.
Air Pistol 10m: Annia Becerra, Mariana Quintanilla, José Ullilen and Marko Carrillo.
They will compete at Las Palmas Shooting Range, venue specially renovated for the Lima 2019 Games. The competition will go from July 27 to August 3.
START OF THE COMPETITIONS
A few days prior to the Opening Ceremony, on July 24, some sports competitions will start at two different venues. The first will take place at the Beach Volleyball Stadium in Costa Verde, in the district of San Miguel. The event will start at 9:00 am at a venue being prepared for these Games. This competition will feature 64 male and female athletes.
At 1:00 pm on the same day; badminton will start on women’s category. 112 athletes from eight countries will compete in the Sports Center 1 of Videna in San Luis.
Women's teams competing in handball are divided into two groups. Group A, featuring Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil and a team qualified by repechage (to be played between Chile, Mexico, Guatemala and Canada). Group B features the United States, Dominican Republic, Argentina and Peru.
QUALIFICATION FOR TOKYO 2020
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. There will be more sports than in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where a total of 32 sports will be featured. Out of all the Lima 2019 competitions, 22 are the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The competitions offering qualification for Tokyo 2020 are: athletics, badminton, handball, swimming, artistic swimming, diving, equestrian sports (jumping, dressage and eventing), hockey, karate (kata and kumite), pentathlon, weightlifting, surf, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon, sailing and water polo.
Lima 2019 will be a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which guarantees the presence of the top athletes in these sport disciplines.
