The district of Villa María del Triunfo will house the baseball competitions when the top eight teams in the Americas face each other at Lima 2019. The current champion in baseball is Canada, as it claimed the gold at Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015. The best pitchers, hitters and field players in the Americas will compete at the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Sports Center from July 29 to August 4.
Group A has three of the strongest contenders in this discipline and comprises Cuba, Colombia, Argentina and Canada. Meanwhile, Peru will play in Group B against Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Nicaragua. It is worth mentioning that these three last countries have given us the best players of Central America and the Caribbean.
Cuba currently dominates baseball with 15 Pan American Games medals (12 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze), followed by Canada that has 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. Then we have Dominican Republic in the fourth place with 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal. All of them have confirmed their best players will be at the continental event.
The Peruvian team is ready to amaze everyone at the Pan American Games. They attended a training camp in Cuba on March and have been training hard since April in their new baseball field at the Sports Center Andrés Avelino Cáceres, which was built in the district of Villa María del Triunfo for Lima 2019. Peru’s baseball team even played against Venezuela in several friendly matches that also served to test the sports infrastructure of the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
