Bowling wants to mark an important milestone in Lima 2019. Alejandro and Gabriela Ishikawa know that they have a great opportunity to do so because they will be playing at home. "I want to win a gold medal, I am focused on that and I know that I have a good chance of that," Alejandro said , as confidently as when he scores strikes.
The Ishikawa brothers visited the Nuestra Señora de Belén school in Ventanilla today thanks to the "Callao es Lima 2019” campaign developed by the Regional Government of Callao to promote several sports disciplines that will be part of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The athletes set up the pins and created excitement among the students, who learned more about this sport that will be present in Lima 2019.
"I love teaching people to play, especially those who have never tried this sport. A couple of kids asked me where they can train. They really enjoyed this experience," said Gabriela, who won the silver medal in the doubles event at the 2018 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships.
"They were a little afraid, so we started from the basics, that is, how to put the fingers into the ball and how to stand up and throw," she said.
Alejandro added that this promotional activity was interesting. "This is very good for sports that aren’t well known because the kids want to learn more about them; for example, they asked me how they could knock down more pins," stated the athlete, second place in the singles category at the Qatar Invitational.
Bowling has modern facilities that will serve to promote and popularize this sport. "The legacy is very important for the sport to continue growing, and the 24 lanes will mean more promotion for the sport, so more people will join in and train freely," concluded Alejandro.
Bowling competitions will be held in the new lanes located at VIDENA, in the district of San Luis, from July 25 to 30.
