Brazil's women’s and men's teams, current South American champions, will be the main characters at the handball tournament, which will be held on the occasion of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The date for the draw has been set for Friday, March 1.
Both teams won the title in the South American Games held last year in Cochabamba (Bolivia).
In addition, Brazil is the only country in America that has ever won a medal in the history of the Handball World Championship. In 2013, it won the women’s title in the competition that took place in Serbia. Both teams will have to compete for the Pan American's gold medal against Argentina, Dominican Republic (champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games), Puerto Rico, Cuba and United States.
Peru will join this competition as a host country. The eighth qualified team will be defined between Canada, Chile, Guatemala and Mexico, from March 26 to March 28 in a quadrangular tournament that will be held in Mexico City.
MEN'S CATEGORY
Men’s tournament includes Brazil, Argentina and Peru as South American representatives; Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico for Central America and the Caribbean; and United States for the Northern area. The eighth place will be defined in an American qualifying tournament between Chile, Colombia and Dominican Republic from April 11 to April 13 in Santiago de Chile.
Peruvian teams continue training hard at the Sports Center 1 of the Videna, located in the district of San Luis.
