The modern aquatic center that is located in the VIDENA is almost complete. The competition pool will be delivered in the next few weeks, while the warm-up pool is ready to welcome future competitors.
A few months before the start of the competitions César Cielo arrived in Lima and toured the National Sports Village (VIDENA). Cielo is a Brazilian swimmer and Beijing 2008 Olympic champion in Beijing 2008, who holds the world record for 50- and 100-meter freestyle since 2009.
“I was very happy to see the facilities and I’m very impressed. I can say with certainty that we’re looking at the best aquatic center in South America and I’m sure that the Games in Lima will be a great success,” said the Brazilian athlete.
“We don’t have any covered pools in Brazil and a facility like this is a milestone for Peru and South America. I would tell athletes to not worry because the facilities are going to be perfect for trying to make the best times; I would tell spectators to come with a lot of determination and energy because we’re going to see a major competition,” he stated.
“This pool is meant for very fast swimmers, and I’m sure that these Games will be the fastest ones yet for swimming, because it looks a lot like the pool at the world championships. I have no doubt that the pool is ready for a world swimming championship,” said Cielo.
During his visit to the Velodrome, the Athletics Stadium and the Aquatic Center, the Beijing Olympic champion highlighted the facilities that will house the swimming competitions during the Lima 2019 Games and, moved, he recalled his achievements.
He pointed out that “the opportunities that we have in competition are unique. To the swimmers who are going to come here, use everything you know, swim as fast as you can, because this can be the beginning of a very successful story that started at the Pan American Games and can continue at the Olympic Games.”
No longer competing, Cielo hopes to return to Lima to be present at Lima 2019. “I want to come as a spectator. I want to be at the Games and accompany my friends from Brazil,” he stated.
