CARLOS NEUHAUS: “LIMA 2019 IS DELIVERING THE STADIUMS TO THE FEDERATIONS FOR THEIR ATHLETES’ TRAINING”

The Lima Director Executive, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, informed the stadium for baseball, rugby, softball, hockey, Basque pelota and paleta fronton was handed over ahead of the established deadline, completing 95% of the main construction works that are being built and remodeled for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. Additionally, the San Marcos Stadium, venue of the U17 Football South American Championship, was also delivered recently.

In a TV show, Neuhaus affirmed new venues will be delivered in the next days, such as the Athletics Track at the VIDENA, the Miguel Grau Coliseum and the Callao Sports Center, so that federations can prepare the athletes who will represent us in Lima 2019.

The Lima 2019 Executive Director stressed the amount of money invested in the organization of the Games is PEN 4300 million (below the budget approved in the Master Plan). This saving of over PEN 770 million was made possible by the Government-to-government Agreement signed with the United Kingdom, which led major tendering processes for Lima 2019.

LEGACY

Furthermore, he announced 22 management plans have been developed, so that the new infrastructure projects built for the Pan American and Parapan American Games are sustainable once they are delivered to their owners after the sporting event.

“This will contribute to a better use of the venues and a better budget for the maintenance of these spaces, which were remodeled and built for the Games,” he explained.

Neuhaus said they are “working on the post-Games period” and mentioned Lima 2019 has suggested public-private administration models to provide social tariffs for the population to enter these venues, among other advantages. The purpose is to promote recreational, formative and competitive sport, as well as the popularization of events and activities in these venues.    

Moreover, the Pan American and Parapan American Village, first accessible housing complex in Peru, will remain as a legacy and will be part of a program of the Ministry Housing after Lima 2019.
