In a short presentation, Neuhaus mentioned the key milestones achieved by several Lima 2019 functional areas in recent months, such as Transport, Volunteering and Torch Relay. He praised the team’s commitment and invited people to participate.
He emphasized that each Peruvian must be committed with the success of this multi-sport event, and also encouraged the attendees to promote this message.
“We’re already in Games-time. The Organizing Committee has taken on this challenge, but we must all work together. We’ll heighten Peru’s name.”
Likewise, he mentioned new details on the competitions and stressed the importance of these Games compared to previous editions.
In the last Pan American Games, 12 sports were qualifiers for the Olympic Games, but we’ll have 22 at Lima 2019. This number says a lot about the hard work of the Organizing Committee because we’ll welcome elite athletes. The American swimming team has announced that at least five Olympic medalists will come here to compete.”
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games is a continental event that will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries, and will open on July 26 at the National Stadium. There will be 17 days of competitions which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the main venues will be VIDENA, Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, Callao Regional Sports Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will welcome 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, who will participate in 17 Para sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1. Additionally, 13 sports will be qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
