MULTI-SECTORAL COMMITTEE WORKS ON SECURITY PLAN FOR THE PAN AMERICAN GAMES

The Lima 2019 Multi-sectorial Commission of Intelligence, National Defense and Public Security gathered for the first time in the year to discuss issues related to the comprehensive security of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, chaired by the Operations Manager Alberto Valenzuela.

The meeting was held at the auditorium of the Peruvian Olympic Committee and international experts were invited by the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy. Carlos Nogueira de Oliveira, Edgar Medina and Fernando Ciampagna came from Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, respectively, who are members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The experts participated in several international events such as the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games and the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games. Experiences were shared on the possible difficulties regarding chemical, bacteriological, radiological and nuclear attacks (CBRN).

Coordinated work

The Lima 2019 Operations Manager Alberto Valenzuela led the working group and highlighted the commitment of several organizations to support the Pan American and Parapan American Games in our country.

“The security-related institutions have gathered for the first time in the year to design and plan the execution of security plans for the Games, covering the 21 sports venues, accommodation in the Villages, as well as routes of accredited people and security of 1500 journalists that will be in Lima.”

“Everyone will be safe from their arrival to the Jorge Chávez International Airport to the different venues such as Lunahuaná, Paracas, and all those that located in the Lima, Callao and Ica regions. All visitors will be provided with all the security,” the Lima 2019 Operations Manager expressed.

Valenzuela said that Lima 2019 will provide “international security because many athletes bring their issues; however, we are prepared as a country, working in coordination to have immediate response to any event that may happen at the highest level required,” he stressed.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, the Public Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Regional Government of Callao, the Municipality of Lima, the Peruvian Army, the Peruvian Navy, the Peruvian Air Force and the Peruvian Police participated in this Multi-sectorial Commission.

Representatives of the Office of National Intelligence, the Division of Intelligence of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, the General Fire Department and the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy, among the main institutions, were also present. They will play an important role in the development of the biggest multi-sport event in the continent.
