CONGRESSMAN DEL ÁGUILA AND ELECTED MAJORS OF SAN LUIS AND SAN JUAN DE MIRAFLORES DISTRICTS VISIT VIDENA

Congressman Edmundo del Águila, member of the Sports Working Group, together with elected majors of San Luis, David Rojas, and of San Juan de Miraflores, Cristina Nina, visited the site of VIDENA.

Lima 2019 President, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, joined the authorities in their visits to the sites of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. They noticed the progress on the velodrome which will soon have the metallic structure for the roof installed. They also saw the progress on the new Aquatic Center that will have an official swimming pool, a training pool, and a diving pool.

They checked the progress on the Athletics Stadium and the warm-up track. Platforms are being prepared in order to install the official competition track. Grandstands are on their last stage of construction.

Congressman highlighted the progress made on these VIDENA sites. “The progress made so far are important. Infrastructure will remain as a legacy for the people. We will return on January to see the sites and progress of this huge event, Lima 2019”, outlined the Congressman.

Del Águila, Rojas and Nina visited the Bowling venue which is ready for the installation of the 24 tracks. Finally, they visited the Sports Center 3, where metallic structures are on installation prior to finish the construction.

San Luis will be one of the fourteen districts with venues for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. San Juan de Miraflores will be one of the districts that will benefit from the sports infrastructure under construction in Villa Maria del Triunfo and Villa El Salvador. The population of these districts will be able to access these facilities to practice their favorite sport.

Authorities congratulated the progress made in VIDENA and promised a new visit next month. New majors will start working from the first day of 2019 and they promised to support the Lima 2019 organization.

VIDENA

Most of the facilities of the National Sports Village (VIDENA), the main competition venue during the Games, will be ready by March 2019. Works at the VIDENA include the construction of the Athletics Stadium for competitions and of one warm-up field, the state-of-the-art Aquatic Center, with 3 diving pools and 1 warm-up pool (to be delivered in May 2019) and a new sports center that will feature modern retractable stands for one thousand spectators.

In addition, this project comprises the Velodrome expansion and roofing, the 24-lane Bowling Center, administration and computer center offices, outdoor areas, and underground parking areas.

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is being used for Videna, which allows resource optimization and prevents interference.

Up to date, the five biggest works for Lima 2019 have been appointed and are under construction: Athletes’ Village, Villa María del Triunfo, VIDENA, Callao and Villa El Salvador Sports Center. Construction works are underway and by March 2019, 95% of the works will be ready for the Lima 2019 Games.

The Pan American and Parapan American Games

During the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, the 41 National Olympic Committees integrating Panam Sports (previously known as Pan American Sports Organization - PASO) will participate, bringing together 6680 athletes competing in 39 sports and 62 disciplines, from July 26 to August 11.

The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 athletes participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines from August 23 to September 1st.

Lima 2019 will be a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which guarantees the presence of the top athletes in these sport disciplines.

The Pan American Games are a major international sports event bringing together athletes from the Americas.

Since 2007, the host city of the Pan American Games is also in charge of the Parapan American Games, where athletes with some impairment participate. The Parapan American Games start right after finishing the Pan American Games.
