The Para Powerlifting World Cup ended with a result of two bronze medals for the Peruvian delegation and was a proof of Lima 2019 organizational capacity in its second test event. Diego Quispe (men’s -54 kg) and Niel García (men’s -59 kg) held the Peruvian flag at the podium at this event dominated by Cuba with three gold and two silver medals.
The history of life of the 43 For athletes, from the 14 participating countries, is a constant and precise improvement of good conditios to compete at the highest level. They appreciated every service provided by the Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. The qualified athletes are looking forward to come back to Lima in August to compete at the Sports Center 2 of VIDENA.
Yuniel Suárez, winner of the men’s -72 kg category expressed his satisfaction. “I was sincerely impressed with the organization. They took great care of this event, before and after the competition. Besides, I loved the warmness of Peruvian people and their delicious food. I'll be back with pleasure for Lima 2019," he said.
Salvadoran Herbert Aceituno, champion in the men’s -65 kg, also indicated he liked Sports Center 2. “It's a well conditioned scenario and that's what competitors liked. Lima has been well prepared to welcome athletes that will come from all over the continent for the Parapan American Games,” he said.
Venezuelan Carlos Betancourt won in the men’s -59 kg and left with the best impression of our city. “We felt like we were at at home. From the minute we arrived in Lima, we came to this Sports Center to train and we noticed the good level of organization during competition days. We felt a nurturing environment here and we leave the country grateful.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place between August 23 and September 1, 2019. A total of 13 sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The Para Powerlifting World Cup is being held from August 29 to 31 at the Sports Center 2 of the VIDENA. The continent’s top 90 Para powerlifters will compete in 20 weight events (10 for men and 10 for women).
