The Callao Sports Center, that Lima 2019 built for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, officially opened today. The Peru women’s U-20 volleyball team was defeated by Chile 3-1 in the international quadrangular tournament “Road to Lima 2019” that allows to test the facilities in preparation for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Also, Argentina won the match against Colombia 3-0 on the first day of the Women’s U-20 Volleyball International Quadrangular Tournament.
A good turnout of fans attended the event that will continue tomorrow from 17:00.
This tournament serves as a test event for the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee to help estimate future public turnout and international participation in official events. Likewise, it is a general test to confirm and improve competition conditions and operation capabilities for the Games.
Four disciplines will be held at the Callao Sports Center: volleyball and taekwondo during the Pan American Games, and sitting volleyball and Para taekwondo at the Parapan American Games.

Early on, a good group of fans went to the Callao Regional Village to get tickets (from 10 soles) and cheer for the Peruvian team in the first matches held there. Most of them were impressed by the modern facilities built especially for the Games and that represent a great legacy for sports and especially for the Callao community.
Additionally, the South American Athletics Championship started today at VIDENA in the district of San Luis. The competition is also a test event for Lima 2019.
Overall, 6680 athletes from 41 countries of the Americas will compete in 39 sports and 61 disciplines at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games to be held from July 26 to August 11. There will be 22 qualifying disciplines for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will take place from August 23 to September 1. 1890 athletes from 33 countries will participate in 17 disciplines.
