Lima 2019 continued to finalize details regarding the Pan American and Parapan American Games. This morning, in a well-attended ceremony, Lima 2019 delivered the BMX Racing Circuit, specifically built in the Costa Verde San Miguel Venue, to the Peruvian Cycling Federation so that our national team can finish preparing for the largest multi-sports event in the Americas.
The President of the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee, Carlos Neuhaus, who was joined by the Mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz Wells; the Mayor of San Miguel, Juan José Guevara; the Lima 2019 Project and Infrastructure Manager, Wilhelm Funcke and the President of the Peruvian Cycling Federation, Gustavo Matus de la Parra, participated in the ceremony.
“This is the penultimate infrastructure to be delivered and it will be a turning point for the development of BMX Cycling in Peru. Out national team members will be pioneers in a first-class scenario that will remain as a legacy for the entire city,” said the President of COPAL.
BMX Racing Cycling will take place between August 8 and 9 in San Miguel, district that is really looking forward to seeing the 40 best cyclists in America in action, especially the world-class star: Mariana Pajón. Hailing from Colombia, she is a two-time Olympic gold medal winner (London 2012 and Rio 2016) and is also the first Latina to win this consecutively in an individual event. She will undoubtedly leave her mark in Lima 2019.
“It is an honor for our district to have been considered to host a venue for an event such as the Pan American Games. The legacy that the Organization is leaving us will be critical to promote champions and good citizens for our society. We will work jointly and optimally with the Federations,” stated Mayor Guevara.
The Costa Verde San Miguel Venue will also host the beach volleyball, speed skating and BMX freestyle cycling competitions.
BMX CYCLING IN LIMA 2019
According to the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the event includes a seeding round, which consists of an individual time trial, which will determine next day´s races, according to the time spent on the circuit. The definition includes three quarterfinal and semifinal rounds for women and men´s categories. Finally, there is a leg of finals for the women and men´s categories.
Peru will participate with José Mamani and Andre LaCroix for the men´s category, while Luciana Yi is set to participate the women´s category. Meanwhile, the Cycling Federation is processing the registration of Micaela Ramírez before Panam Sports. The current champion of the juniors' Nations Cup is 17 years old and the category only considers competitors over the age of 18. We expect to offer her a special room.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 26 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at different venues, such as the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
