With 54 days until the Pan American Games, Lima 2019 ambassador Benoit “Piccolo” Clemente, was crowned World Champion at the ISA World Longboard Championship, held on the beaches of Biarritz, France.
The Lima 2019 ambassador made it to the top of the podium at the event that welcomed 104 athletes from 32 countries, 46 of which were women. “Piccolo” scored 17.53 points, securing the gold medal and beating the French brothers Antoine and Edouard Delpero.
“I'm very happy. I’ve always wanted to win this title. I’ve competed in many ISA events and always dreamed of winning,” stated the Peruvian athlete. This was his third world championship title following his 2012 and 2015 victories in China, although this is his first ISA event at this level, which he has wanted to win for a long time.
“The ISA title was the last title I had to win at an international surfing level. Now, I’m going to fight to win a gold medal at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games,” added the Lima 2019 Games ambassador, who has qualified to compete in Punta Rocas at Lima 2019.
At the international competition in France, the Peruvian team made history as the competition’s runner-up, all thanks to “Piccolo” Clemente’s victory, Lucas Garrido Lecca’s sixth place in men’s, and María Fernando Reyes in women’s, as well as Ana Camila Kaspar thirteenth place. With these victories, the Peruvian national delegation won second place, after the local French team, but surpassing the US and Brazil.
