The Lima 2019 Organizing Committee is working very hard to collaborate with the development of the South American U-17 Football Championship, that will be hosted in the stadium of the National University of San Marcos, remodeled for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Works at this sports venue are in the final stage and Lima 2019 will work together with the Peruvian Football Federation to deliver the international tournament in the country, which will be held from March 21 to April 14 with the participation of the youth national teams from South America.
“This South American Championship will be an important event before the start of the Pan American Games,” Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee, stated. San Marcos Stadium will host men's and women's football competitions.
At San Marcos Stadium, the installation of Level 1 synthetic grass on the football field, certified by FIFA, has been completed, complying with standards required by international authorities for world class sport competitions.
Additionally, the paving of the athletics track circling the football field is still in the making, as well as the placement of the seats to provide more comfort to spectators.
San Marcos Stadium will have artificial lighting for games held at night time. The western grandstand will be roofed to host authorities.
The venue will meet FIFA standards. It will be a legacy for students of the university and a place for professional sport competitions.
