Peru will host the South American U-17 Football Championship. The only venue for the competition will be the stadium of the National University of San Marcos, which is being remodeled for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Since March 10, 10 national South American teams will participate in this international tournament in Peru, where four national teams will qualify for the U-17 World Cup. The Lima 2019 Organization Committee is working in this venue. Works are in their final stage for the South American Championship opening.
The Lima 2019 Project and Infrastructure Manager Wilhelm Funcke informed, during his visit, that works are in progress at the San Marcos Stadium for the South American U-17 Championship opening. “We are carrying out the finishing works at the stadium, the new athletic track, the field, the installation of the goal frames, the main grandstand, the sanitary facilities and the access points. We are working double shift to have it ready by March 21, we are even working at night to reduce the deadlines that were originally scheduled for March 31,” he stated.
Stands of the stadium include the seats that have already been installed. For the South American Championship, the Peruvian Football Federation will implement the east and west grandstands, with capacity for approximately 12,000 spectators. The north grandstand will be added to gather fans during the Lima 2019 competitions.
TV broadcasters visit
Meanwhile, the representatives of Latina TV, Movistar TV and TyC visited the San Marcos stadium to inspect it for worldwide television broadcasting. They were assisted by the Lima 2019 representatives to set the position of their broadcast antenna, as well as the location of their commentators.
“They were assisted in their inspection of the stadium so they could determine the places to install the cameras. The Federation will be responsible for providing overlay structures so they feel more comfortable, and so they have better sound conditions for broadcasts. Everything is on its way and we assured them them that everything will be ready by March 21,” said engineer Funcke about this visit.
Finally, Funcke pointed out that in May, after the South American Championship, overlay structures of the Special Project will be used in the Pan American Games, such as the mixed area that will be used by the accredited press, the press room, the volunteer dining room, as well as the auxiliary warm-up field.
