The students of the Educational Institution 7077 Reyes Rojos de Chorrillos are counting down the days for the start of the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The 800 primary and secondary school students prepared in the best way to receive the karatekas who performed an exhibition of one of the sports that will be included at the Lima 2019 Games.
Alexander Cruz, Ernesto Salcedo and José Daniel Morales visited this school in Chorrillos to show their best Kata routines to the children.
This event is part of the “2019 TOP Peru at Schools” program, which is carried out by the Ministry of Education through the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD).
“It’s exciting and encouraging that so many children are watching us,” said Ernesto Salcedo, who will be looking forward to his sister Saida's participation in the Pan American Games. “Seeing her compete is something amazing that motivates me to continue practicing this sport,” he said.
The movements of defense and attack caught the attention of the children, who applauded the young karatekas. “I didn't expect to receive such a warm welcome and to see so many children rooting and waiting for us, it was spectacular. We wanted them to get to know our sport,” said Alexander Cruz.
“It’s wonderful that sports can be used as a tool for children to develop as good people and citizens. I wanted that our students could meet the new champions. I liked the elegance, strength and energy of kata," said Susana Sotelo, principal of Reyes Rojos de Chorrillos.
“Lima 2019 is a great opportunity for us to meet our champions in different disciplines. Who knows, maybe a champion will come out from Reyes Rojos, to bring victories to our country,” said the Principal of the educational institution.
The two categories of karate will be held at the Villa El Salvador Sports Center during the Pan American Games. Kata will take place on August 9; and Kumite, on August 10 and 11.
