Fifty days from the Pan American Games, Peruvian Sports Federations are asking themselves: Who will compete at Lima 2019 Games? In the last few days, the Judo, Triathlon and Golf Federations confirmed the list that they have presented to the Peruvian Olympic Committee of the athletes that will compete as of July 26, after the Opening Ceremony at the National Stadium.
The Olympic judoka Juan Postigos (London 2012 and Rio 2016) is at the top of the list, alongside bronze-medal winners at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games Brillith Gamarra (Nanjing 2014) and Noemí Huayhuameza (Buenos Aires 2018), who will compete in -48 kg and -52 kg categories, respectively.
In addition, Kiara Arango (-57 kg), •Ariana Cornejo (-63 kg), Xsara Morales (-70 kg) and Camila Figueroa (- 78kg) will be in the women’s category; as well as Dilmer Calle (-60 kg), Alonso Wong (-73 kg), Luis Ángeles (-81 kg), Yuta Galarreta (-90 kg), José Arroyo (-100 kg) and Frank Alvarado (+100 kg).
This sport will have its ultimate test during the Pan American Games in Sports Center 3 at VIDENA, stage that was specially built by Lima 2019. The competition will start on August 8, shortly before the end of the Games.
FOUR TRIATHLETES
Rodrigo Bravo won the last Peruvian quota place for triathlon at the Pan American Triathlon Cup that took place this past weekend in Santa Marta, Colombia. Yesterday, the Peruvian Triathlon Federation announced that four Peruvian athletes will represent their country at Lima 2019.
Rodrigo joins his sister Ada and Blanca Kometter from the women’s category; while José Gómez de la Torre will be the other triathlon to compete.
GOLF IS READY TOO
The Peruvian Golf Federation announced the four golfers who were nominated to join Team Peru and take part in the Pan American Games golf competition, which will be held at the Lima Golf Club in San Isidro, from August 8 to 11.
Luis Fernando Barco, Julián Périco, Micaela Farah and María Palacios are the nominated athletes.
Peru will present the largest delegation in its history. Although the detailed list will be determined at the end of the month, it is estimated that close to 620 athletes will make the list.
