As the registration for Lima 2019 Volunteer Program has already closed, the expectations are focused in the training process for people who has signed up to be volunteers in the Pan American and Parapan American Games, to be held in Peru for the first time ever.
There will be a new volunteer training workshop this weekend in the universities of Lima, Ica and Huancayo, where around 5000 participants are expected to participate. The training process aims to provide participants with the necessary tools, knowledge and skills to carry out their roles successfully in the Games and create a social legacy. This program is carried out jointly with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
It is important to point out that the training experience is one of the most important benefits of the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program and will be delivered to 40,000 volunteer applicants, and will include around 20 class hours between in-person and virtual trainings. This process began with general in-person trainings for applicants in Peru.
Trainings will take place in: Lima, Callao, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Cajamarca, Huancayo, Tacna, Arequipa, Cusco, Tarapoto, Ica, Huacho, Cañete and Pisco, according to the schedule published on www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado
To participate in the trainings, people must register in the volunteer site: www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado, complete the application form and select the training venue and schedule of their choice.
Trainings in Lima, Ica and Huancayo
For this weekend, trainings were scheduled in Lima, in downtown Lima, San Miguel and Ate districts. The first one will be held at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC) in San Miguel located on the corner of Ave. La Marina 2810 with Ave. Rafael Escardó. At this university, trainings will be carried out this Saturday, February 23.
The other training venue is located in Lima Este at Technological University of Peru (UTP), which will operate on its branch in Ate (Carretera Central Km. 11.6 - one block away from Real Plaza Santa Clara, Ate). The training is scheduled for this Sunday.
There will be a new training in downtown Lima at Technological University of Peru (UTP) located on Ave. Arequipa 265 . The training will be carried out this Saturday and Sunday.
On the other hand, the Training Process will reach Ica, and the sessions will take place at San Luis Gonzaga University in Ica located on Calle Huánuco 218. The workshops will be carried out this Saturday and Sunday in this city located in the south of Peru.
Finally, on weekend, the registered people from Huancayo and surroundings will be trained at Continental University (Ave. San Carlos 1980, Huancayo).
Trainings will be held in two shifts at these venues: from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. Participants must show their DNI (Peruvian ID card) to enter. Participants will have to arrive one hour before the training start to be able to sign in and participate of the course.
Strategic Alliances in Huancayo and Ica
Actions have been taken to disseminate and promote the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program, as well as to look for alternatives for the mobilization of volunteers in Huancayo and Ica and those regions surroundings, through meetings to strengthen of strategic alliances with the Continental University’s representatives in Huancayo, as well as with San Luis Gonzaga University in Ica and the Municipality of Ica.
Likewise, we have worked with civil society organizations that have supported the dissemination and call of volunteers in each of the regions: Cconay Perú (Huancayo) and APECA – Peruvian Association of Students in Business and Administrative Sciences (Ica).
Benefits of volunteering
Lima 2019 volunteers will have benefits such as the training program offered with the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), and they will receive a certificate for their training and participation. Likewise, they will receive a uniform, accreditation, meals according to shift, accident insurance, transport, national and international contact network, and the opportunity to live a unique experience.
There are several functional departments where volunteers can be assigned to, such as accreditation, accommodation, arrivals and departures, transport, medical services, doping control, spectators service, press, protocol, sports, information technology, uniforms, workforce, marketing, among others.
