The best 36 marathon runners in the Americas will gather on July 27 to participate in one of the most expected athletics events of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The starting and finish line will be the Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, and the circuit will cover 42 kilometers and 195 meters for both women and men.
The women's race starts at 08:30 and the men's event, one hour after. The route will take the athletes through the Arequipa Avenue, before dropping into the Historic Center of Lima. Then, on their way back, runners will enter the Arequipa and Pardo Avenues, crossing the Malecón de la Reserva and the Malecón Cisneros. The route will snake through the Armendáriz and Larco Avenues to finish off at Parque Kennedy. The route will cross the districts of Miraflores, San Isidro, Lince and Lima.
Among the participants are renowned Peruvian athletes such as Gladys Tejeda, Inés Melchor, Cristhian Pacheco, and Willy Canchanya.
The Marathon is a road competition free of charges for all spectators, so around ten thousand people are expected to attend the event and root for their favorite athletes along the route.
The Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Organizing Committee has some recommendations for the spectators that will attend the competitions:
It should be noted that some avenues will be closed along the circuit on the competition days. Therefore, we urge the citizens to be tolerant with the implications of the international event, which will be hosted in Peru for the first time ever.
