The Pan American Games Opening Ceremony, the most expected show of the year, is taking shape in the creative minds of the artists invited to prepare the big event. The team is led by the Italian company Balich Worldwide Shows, the one that has invited Francisco Negrin for the Pan American Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as the Parapan American Games Ceremonies.
The recognized creative director has already started with the production works in Lima this week with great enthusiasm: “As director of the Pan American Games Opening Ceremony and creative manager of the remaining three ceremonies, I’m working with an international team that includes the best creative minds of Peru, and we all want to show, both the international and the local audience, what can be created in this country,” he said. “We don’t want it to be the typical folklore, archeology and nature we already know, but a vision of Peru today and in the future,” he added.
Negrin is an international awarded director for his career, either for operas in the most important theaters around the world, or for shows in stadiums and arenas at wide ranging events. He has directed over 60 acclaimed productions in world-famous venues, from London to Sydney and from New York to Paris. Among his greatest successes is the Opening Ceremony of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat in 2017. 6000 artists participated in this event and it was the third most biggest ceremony of Olympic style.
In relation to his expectations for his new artistic challenge, the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the director said the following: “We really want to amaze the world with the meaning of Peru today, and inspire the Peruvian people to feel proud of what they can create. Thus, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will leave a legacy, a new image of the country when the time comes to introduce it to the world.”
The Pan American Games Opening Ceremony will take place the night of July 26, with the 41 delegations making their first appearance at the National Stadium. It will have a display of more than a thousand artists, including dancers, acrobats and musicians live. The Closing Ceremony will be on August 11. For the Parapan American Games, the Opening Ceremony will be held on August 23 and the fourth and last ceremony, the Closing Ceremony, will be held on September 1.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 26 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at various venues like VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 62 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 23 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 the Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place between August 23 and September 1, 2019. Fourteen sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

IPC and APC
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the international governing body of the Paralympic Movement. This committee’s objective is to organize the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games and to act as the International Federation of nine sports, in order to supervise and coordinate the World Championships and other competitions.
The Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) was established in August 1997 with the aim of creating a Para sport governing body for the Americas. Since 2007, the Parapan American Games are held in the same city as the Pan American Games.
