The Peruvian Handball national team intensifies its preparation for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games with double training sessions at the Sports Center 1 of VIDENA, while waiting for the group draw this Friday, to know who will be their opponents in the continental event, that will start on July 26.
With the attendance of Mario Ramos Torres and Iván Bendezú López, coaches of the women’s and men’s Peruvian national teams respectively, teams are training both physically and technically sides to face the Pan American Games for the first time ever.
THE DRAW
To determine the matches of the Pan American Games, the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee scheduled for this Friday, March 1, the draw of the countries participating in the handball competition.
The draw will take place at the auditorium of the Organizing Committee, where Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 Executive Director, Ramón Gallego Santos, technical delegate designated by the Handball International Federation, as well as Peruvian authorities are invited. Milco, the Lima 2019 official mascot, will also attend this historic ceremony.
This competition will gather the continent’s best representatives. One of the most expected teams is Brazil, both in men' and women's category, which is the current South American champion. Both national teams brought home the gold at the South American Games held last year in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES
The Peruvian and Brazilian women national teams will face Argentina, the Dominican Republic (gold-medal winner at the Central America and Caribbean Games), Puerto Rico, Cuba and the United States of America. The eighth women national team to participate in the Games will be defined from March 26 to 28 in a four-team match between Canada, Chile, Guatemala and Mexico to be held in Mexico City.
The South American representatives of the men tournament are Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico represent Central America and the United States represents North America. The eighth quota place will be determined in an American qualifying tournament among Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic from April 11 to 13 in Santiago de Chile.
