The flame keeps burning and continues its tour in the city of Huancayo, known as the Incomparable. The Pan American Torch from Ayacucho will arrive on Thursday, July 11 in this city.
“The Incomparable” will have 39 torchbearers touring the main streets and avenues of Huancayo. The starting point of this 7-kilometer journey will be the Parque de los Héroes. Then, the flame will pass by the Municipality of Tambo and will finish in the Huancayo stadium, where an exciting grand finale will be held with typical dances and other protocol activities. The cauldron will be lit by the Olympic athlete Kimberly García León, who will participate in race walking and is one of Peru's medal candidates at the Pan American Games.
Remarkable athletes
Kenydi Fernandez Román, who completed the military service with honors, will be one of the main torchbearers. While he was serving, he lost his right arm. But it was not an obstacle to keep training, so Kenydi wants to represent Peru in Para taekwondo at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
Carmen Rosa Esteban Fabián is a persistent mother, who will have the honor of carrying the Pan American Torch, although she works on sales almost 10 hours a day. Despite her daily tasks, Carmen qualified for the ultra-demanding 2018 Boston Marathon, which had unusual weather conditions such as pouring rains. Despite these severe conditions, she completed the 42-kilometer race in 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Before the Pan American flame approaches its final destination in Lima, , it will stop in Huánuco, Tarapoto, Bagua, and Piura, among the main cities. The torch is scheduled to arrive in the National Stadium on July 26, where the Pan American Games opening ceremony will be held.
