The Ica region and the historic Bahía de Paracas will join the celebrations of the largest multi-sports event to take place for the first time in Peru. The Paracas sea will welcome the best athletes of the continent who will arrive to compete in the sailing disciplines.
A volunteer training workshop will be held this weekend for all people living in Paracas and Ica region who registered to participate as volunteers for the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
This program was presented today Friday in the capital of the Ica region, so that more citizens participate in the Volunteer Program and be part of the organization of Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. Milco, the Lima 2019 Games official mascot arrived to Ica to encourage locals to become volunteers of the multi-sports event in the continent starting on July 26.
Likewise, the Volunteer Training Process was presented. The Lima 2019 Volunteer Program Training Head Walter Arteaga is in charge of it. Arteaga pointed out that trainings aim to provide the participants the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully carry out their role in the Games and help to create social legacy. This program will be carried out jointly with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
“We want all citizens of the Ica region to join the Volunteer Program and enjoy this multi-sports event. There is no age limit and people over 16 years old can register. They will receive many benefits. More than 600 people have registered in Ica and there is still time to do it until February 22,” Arteaga stated.
The Sports Central Commission President and representative of San Luis Gonzaga University in Ica, Julio Muñante, announced that volunteers of this education center will join Lima 2019.
To participate in the trainings, people must register in the Volunteer site: www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado; complete the application and select the training venue and schedules of their choice.
Trainings in Paracas
The training session will be held for the first time on February 16-17 in Paracas, at the District Municipality of Paracas (community facilities of squatter settlement Alan García - El Chaco, Paracas) in two shifts: from 8:00 am to 12:00 m. and from 2:00 pm. to 6:00 pm. People should bring their ID to enter the facilities. It is important to attend an hour before the beginning of the training to sign in and walk into class in time.
More trainings in Ica and Pisco
A new training session will take place on February 23-24 at the San Luis Gonzaga University in Ica (located at calle Huánuco, main campus, Ica).
Additionally, trainings will be held on March 2-3 at Don José de San Martín School in Pisco (located at calle José Balta 769, Pisco Playa) and on March 9-10 at the community facilities of the squatter settlement Santa Cruz of Paracas District.
Volunteer Program registrations are still open!
In order to have more participants in the program, the Volunteer Program registrations have been extended until February 22. To become a volunteer, you only need to be over 16 years old by April 1, 2019, be available at least eight days, not necessarily consecutive days. You must be friendly, proactive and able work in teams. Minors will need their parents’ consent. Registrations are processed in the Volunteer Portal: www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado; people must click on the “Sign up” button, complete the application and select the training venue and schedules of their choice.
Benefits of volunteering
Lima 2019 volunteers will have benefits such as the training program offered with the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), and they will receive a certificate for their training and participation. Likewise, they will receive a uniform, accreditation, meals according to shift, accident insurance, transport, national and international contact network, and the opportunity to live a unique experience.
There are several functional departments where volunteers can be assigned to, such as accreditation, accommodation, arrivals and departures, transport, medical services, doping control, spectators service, press, protocol, sports, information technology, uniforms, workforce, marketing, among others.
Milco, Lima 2019 Games Mascot
Milco is the official mascot of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games and a symbol of the ancient Lima culture. It communicates the event messages and the values of the sport and the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Milco is based on the Cuchimilcos figures that belonged to the cultures developed in Lima, Chancay and Chincha, located in the central western part of Peru. Milco is a very cheerful, optimistic and friendly mascot. It is characterized by its open arms to welcome every visitor arriving for the Games. Red is one of its favorite colors, which is also part of our flag.
