The Pan American and Parapan American Games continue to make a positive impact on people. That is why in July, Institución Educativa Fe y Alegría 23 school of Villa María del Triunfo, will develop content for students to learn more about sports values and Lima 2019.
That interest was reflected in the 600 primary school students who participated in the “Soy Lima 2019” campaign, which aims to spread Olympic and Paralympic values and to promote the Pan American and Parapan American Games that start on July 26.
The day began with ten minutes of physical activity. The children watched the socio-cultural show that tells the story of an athlete and a Para athlete who fight to make their dream of representing Peru at the Pan American and Parapan American Games come true.
“We promote values in our school championships. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, we must call attention to them beyond the competition. And that’s important because the central theme of the teachers’ syllabus will be values and the development of the Pan American Games.
“It was a wonderful day. I congratulate the initiative to visit schools and motivate the kids to know more about the Games and understand, above all, that it’s not just about competing, it’s also about promoting values,” said Anabell Cruz, the school principal.
Villa María del Triunfo is the competition venue with the highest number of team sports. Many of them are not well known by the population. However, there is already an interest to learn more and practice them.
“The kids are very motivated, and it’s important for children and young people to learn that there are more sports. We hope to incorporate some new sports, such as rugby, in our school championships soon and, why not, have a local team,” added Anabell Cruz.
Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center will house the rugby, hockey, water polo, baseball, softball, Basque pelota, Peruvian fronton and archery competitions. This will leave a significant legacy for these sports. “Now that we have this amazing Sports Center, we’re going to encourage them to go there on weekends,” concluded the school principal.
