LIMA 2019 INVITED THE ELECTED GOVERNORS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TORCH RELAY AND CULTURAL PROGRAM

On the Ninth Executive GORE (Regional Government Meeting), Lima 2019 invited the elected governors to participate in the Panamerican and Parapan American Torch Relay to be held as a preview to both Games, July 26 and in August 3 2019.

The Lima 2019 Games will be seen by 400 million people and 175 thousand tourists are expected to arrive to Peru as part of the second most important sporting event in the world.

Likewise, they received an invitation to participate in the Lima 2019 Cultural Program to be held for 38 days (from July 26 to September 9) in the capital and where the regional governors could set up a booth of their province that may include handicrafts shops, gastronomy and others, and also can have shows to promote their local culture.

Both the Panamerican and Parapan American Torch Relay and the Cultural Program are the two greatest events aimed at convening citizens to participate in the Lima 2019 Games, as well as promoting tourism and our cultural diversity.

It is important to say that the Panamerican Torch Relay will last 22 days (from July 5 to July 26). The trip will start in the Teotihuacan ruins, Mexico and will arrive to Machu Picchu, our greatest touristic attraction and a Modern World’s Wonder, to start a journey through 19 main cities and provinces in Peru, arriving to the National Stadium, where the Panamerican Games Lima 2019 will be inaugurated.

The regional governments will participate in this event, preparing their cities for the arrival of the Panamerican Torch, sponsoring the celebrations as custodians of the flame, promoting the local culture portraying dances, typical dresses, traditional food, arts and others.

Parapan American Relay

The Parapan American Torch Relay will last 3 days (from August 21 to August 23, 2019) traveling through 10 huacas in Lima and arrive to the National Stadium, where the Parapan American Games will be inaugurated. Also, the torch may be lit throughout Peru from a digital platform.

Opportunities for the Provinces

The regional governments would be able to have photo opportunities with the Parapan American Torch in the historical heritage, cultural and natural of their provinces, also the torch can be exhibited in public spaces and promote the interaction in the Parapan American Torch digital platform.

Can also hold and fund celebrations along the route of the Panamerican Torch, as well as inviting and recruiting local leaders to be “Torchbearer”. The guidelines for Lima 2019 will be published next year.
