Kingston, Jamaica. There are only 27 days left until the greatest sports event of the continent begins and the Panam Sports office has received news that undoubtedly will be very attractive for all those who love sports and especially athletics.
The Jamaican Olympic Committee has submitted the official list of athletes that will participate in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, among which Briana Williams stands out, the promising figure of Caribbean and world athletics and Team Panam Sports ambassador. Alongside her, two of the greatest sprinters in history also stand out: Elaine Thompson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
The two athletes are currently leading the IAAF 100 meters world ranking, both with a time of 10.73 seconds achieved in the Jamaican National Championship last weekend.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is an athlete with extensive experience who has given Jamaica many joys. In Beijing 2008, she was the Olympic champion in 100 meters at only 21 years of age and then repeated the feat in London 2012. She also obtained two silver medals in London, in 200 meters and in 4x100 meter relay. Her sports resume also boasts seven world titles.
Thompson, on her part, is the last Olympic sprint queen. In Rio 2016, the outstanding athlete won the gold medal in 100 and 200 meters.
These two world athletics superstars will compete in Lima 2019 between August 6 and 10 at the VIDENA athletics track, which promises to be one of the most interesting sports of the continental event.
The presence of these two stars, plus the recent confirmation of Justin Gatlin from Team USA, Colombian jumper Catherine Ibarguen and Team Panam Sports ambassador Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela, among many others, will no doubt make athletics a world-class event at the Pan American Games.
