CHEFS DE MISSION FROM ALL THE CONTINENT EXCITED ABOUT LIMA 2019 PAN AMERICAN GAMES

About a hundred sport leaders from all the Americas arrived in Peru to visit the main competition and accommodation venues being built for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. All of them will be part of the biggest multisport event in the continent as they will lead the 41 delegations participating in the Pan American Games, opening on July 26, 2019, in a special ceremony at the National Stadium.

Leaders arrived in Peru as Chefs de Mission to participate in the Seminar organized by Lima 2019 and attended by Panam Sports, an organization that groups 41 nations of the continent participating at the Pan American Games. They were briefed on major progress in the organization and works that are under way in many locations of Lima and Callao.

The Lima 2019 president Carlos Neuhaus Tudela was in charge of the opening of this important meeting. The Panam Sports vice-president Keith Joseph, the secretary general Ivar Sisniega, and the Peruvian Olympic Committee president Pedro del Rosario also joined this event.

During the Chefs de Mission seminar, they discussed important topics such as policies and procedures related to the Games, including delegations arrivals and departures, transportation, hospitality, ticketing, ceremonies, sport entries, customs, competition schedule, among other issues.

The international leaders had the opportunity to take a close look at the works under construction in different venues: VIDENA, Pan American Village, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador and Villa María del Triunfo Sports Centers and the National Stadium, where opening and closing ceremonies will take place.

The Chef de Mission from Uruguay Jorge Rosales was one of the leaders who recognized the efforts of the Lima 2019 organization. “It’s impressive what we could see in the competition venues and the Pan American Village,” he said. 130 athletes from this country would participate in the Pan American Games.

Meanwhile, the Puerto Rico Chef de Mission Víctor Ruiz praised the construction of the Pan American and Parapan American Village that will house around 10,000 athletes and technical officials. “We know that sport scenarios must always comply with technical specifications, so, as Chefs de Mission, we are always concerned about the Village housing athletes and we see that it’s almost finished with very comfortable rooms,” he remarked.

Additionally, Cuba’s sports director José Antonio Miranda said works are progressing at the right pace, and thanks to that, conditions are being created for athletes to achieve good results. 337 athletes from Cuba have already qualified and there are still 125 to qualify. The island representatives will compete in more than 25 sports.

At this three-day event, leaders got to know first-hand about the organization work, regarding the details to make Lima 2019 an unforgettable Games experience. They rested assured and excited, as they know that all details are being handled to receive the athletes of all the continent in the best possible way.
