Lima 2019 has a double challenge, as part of the Judo Panamerican Championships Seniors organization, because or capital city will be hosting the most important tournament of the Americas first the first time, and because it will be the first test event for the Pan American Games Organizing Committee.
The tournament will be until April 28 at Sports Center 1 of VIDENA and it will gather the best judokas from 29 countries of the Americas: Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, Guatemala, Cuba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Haiti, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico, Aruba, Peru, Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, United States, Trinidad y Tobago, Honduras, Curacao, Bahamas, Uruguay, El Salvador, and Barbados.
Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 executive director will attend the opening ceremony, to be held this afternoon, with representatives of the Panamerican Judo Confederation and the Peruvian Judo Federation. This competition will qualify the best judokas to the Pan American Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“This is an important event because it will bring enormous improvements in infrastructure and organization support in sports. Conclusions will help us improve on our road to the Games”, Neuhaus said at the championship presentation conference.

The Judo Panamerican Championships Seniors gathers Olympic champions such as Paula Pareto from Argentina, Rafaela Silva from Brazil, and world champion, Mayra Aguilar, also from Brazil. Other famous Olympic champions that also arrived in Peru are Iván Felipe Silva from Cuba and Antoine Valois-Fortier from Canada.
Free admission to Sports Center 1 of VIDENA was made available to promote this sport. People wanting to enjoy these great world athletes’ combats must request their free pass at precinct’s gate 15, in Avenida del Aire and enter through gate 1.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games is an event gathering 6680 athletes from 41 countries which starts on July 26 at the National Stadium. There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at various venues like VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 62 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 23 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 the Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place between August 23 and September 1, 2019. 14 sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
