The Pan American Surfing Games kicked off spectacularly with the parade of participating delegations and the Peruvian team led by Lima 2019 Ambassadors Sofía Mulanovich and Analí Gómez. This championship will be qualifier for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
The opening ceremony of this international event took place last Sunday with the parade of athletes from the lookout called “Analí Gómez” in Punta Hermosa beach to the Playa Negra beach boardwalk.
This important championship gathers Americas’ best surfers because it grants quota places for Lima 2019 Pan American Games to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2019 at Punta Rocas beach This will be the competition venue and will also host this international event starting Monday 3.
The opening speech was delivered by Karin Sierralta, president of the Pan American Surf Association, hosting this event, who highlighted that this tournament will allocate quota places for the Lima 2019 Games.
“Lima 2019 will lead the way for Tokyo 2020, and will be a great opportunity for Americas’ athletes to carve their names in Olympic history books,” he expressed.
THE PERUVIAN TEAM
The Peruvian team will be best represented at the Men's Open competition by Tomás Tudela, Lucca Mesinas, Alonso Correa, Sebastián Correa and Cristóbal de Col. Lima 2019 Ambassadors Sofía Mulanovich and Analí Gómez, as well as Melanie Giunta and Daniella Rosas will participate at the Women’s Open. Two quota places in both categories for the Lima 2019 Games will be granted.
Likewise, Piccolo Clemente and Lucas Garrido Lecca, and María Fernanda Reyes and Camila Kaspar will compete in men’s and women’s longboard, respectively. Sebastián Gómez and Tamil Martino, Brissa Málaga and Vania Torres will represent Peru in men’s and women’s SUP Surfing events, respectively.
Peruvians Itzel Delgado and Tamil Martino, and Marina Loayza and Giannisa Vecco will participate in men’s and women’s SUP Race, respectively. In these surfing classes, one Peruvian representative will qualify per category.
Competitions will take place at Punta Rocas beach, so this tournament will allow participating teams to get to know one of the waves where they could qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as Lima 2019 will be a qualifying event. This tournament starts on Monday 3 and a total of 64 surfers will qualify for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
