Multidisciplinary teams of the Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and of the Municipality of Lima participated in a work meeting held at the Municipality. The purpose of this meeting was to finalize details for the most important sporting event in the Americas, which will take place for the first time in Peru.
Some of the topic addressed were security, transportation and road signage, public cleaning, and medical services. All these issues will be addressed by the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee through a strategy called the “Last Mile”.
“This strategy was also implemented at the London 2012 Olympic Games and, in Peru, the Organizing Committee and the Municipality of Lima will coordinate with other districts to provide security and health care in the 1500 meters surrounding the venues,” explained Alberto Valenzuela, Lima 2019 Chief Operating Officer.
In this work meeting, the exclusive lanes were also discussed. These lanes will function at established times for the transport of athletes and are already being tested with the assistance of the Peruvian National Police. Contingency plans will also be implemented to avoid disturbing the citizens.
Moreover, all the management areas that make up the municipal corporation committed to help the Organizing Committee to deliver the best edition in the history of the Pan American Games.
In this regard, Valenzuela expressed that there will be a very close communication between Lima 2019 and the Municipality of Lima during the event.
“We’ll have an MPC (Main Operation Center), which will be the control and communication center for all our 21 precincts. As for the 15 precincts that are within the jurisdiction of the Lima Metropolitan Area, a phone line with the Municipality of Lima will be open 24/7, in order to maintain close coordination at all times,” he explained.
At the end of the day, the Municipal Metropolitan Manager, Gloria Corvacho Becerra, assured that all Peruvians must be committed to the success of Lima 2019.
“We’re here to collaborate and pull off this event to make our country proud,” he said.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will take place from July 26 to August 11 in 21 sports precincts, 15 of which are located in the Lima Metropolitan Area.
