The Special Project for the Preparation and Development of Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games signed a contract to transfer media rights to Latina Media S.A., which will grant the Peruvian channel all the rights of exclusive broadcasting nationwide.
The media rights transfer contract grants Latina Media S.A. the broadcasting, retransmission and distribution of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as of the sporting competitions that will be carried out during the Lima 2019 Games.
This opens a new era in Games broadcasting. Beside the number of hours of live broadcast – where Latina outperformed the other proposals, with around 541 hours – the channel's commitment is to spread the athletes life-stories, as well as the values and legacy that Games will leave in Peru.
“Latina understood what we expect from this contract: more than a Games broadcast alliance, a strategic partner that will help us spread the Games, their values and the legacy they will leave,” Juan Antonio Silva, Lima 2019 Communications, Commercial and Marketing Manager explained.
The Commercial Manager of Latina, Max Iglesias, explained that the media rights contract comprehends three stages. The first will begin in March and aims to highlight participating athletes, reporting on the sports and disciplines of Lima 2019, as well as on the infrastructure that is being built for the Games. Meanwhile, the second stage will begin in July with the live broadcast of all sports disciplines through: Latina, Panamericana TV and 2.3 Latina digital and the digital networks of Latina. While the third stage will seek to emphasize the sporting values of the Games.
“We’re very happy to be able to sign this agreement. We have a great commitment to Lima 2019 to broadcast the Games. We want to develop a series of contents that create values related to sport and athletes. We are a national channel and our purpose is that the infrastructure and development achieved by Lima 2019 is seen throughout the country, with a powerful coverage,” stated Max Iglesias, Commercial Manager of Latina.
