As part of the “100 days to go until the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games” celebrations, the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee visited the emblematic César Vallejo school, located in the district of La Victoria, to share the message of the multi-sports event with students, which will be held on August 23.
The Games Organizing Committee held a Para badminton exhibition with the participation of Peruvian Para badminton team members, such as Lima 2019 Ambassador Pilar Jáuregui, Esteban Juárez, Alberto Cadenillas and Pablo César Cueto.
It should be noted that Peruvian Para athletes are currently preparing with great enthusiasm and determination to participate in test events and represent the country in Lima 2019.
Lima 2019 Executive Director, Carlos Neuhaus, Regional Director of Education in Metropolitan Lima Area, Killa Miranda, the César Vallejo school principal, Angélica Javier, among other authorities and teachers of the school, attended the ceremony called “100 days to go until the Parapan American Games.”
At the event, Neuhaus encouraged students to reflect on the benefits of sport and to consider it as a vital part of their education.
“Sport helps people to organize themselves and set objectives. We’ve been working very hard for two years to show Lima and Peru to the world. “We are doing all this effort for athletes and Para athletes that will represent our country,” Neuhaus said.
Furthermore, Miranda stressed the significant value of the Parapan American Games and the impact they will have on our society.
“I’m fully aware of the integration effects of Paralympic sport. People will be able to see and enjoy each of the victories of Para athletes. Staff members of the Regional Directorate of Education of Lima are committed to Lima 2019.”
Meanwhile, Javier assured that it is an honor for the school to celebrate the 100 days countdown until the Parapan American Games.
“The César Vallejo school is a symbol of sport. One of our students participated in the South American Games in 2018 and won a bronze medal. This school opens its doors to celebrate the Parapan American Games 100 days before the opening. We’re very pleased to welcome Lima 2019,” she stated.
The Lima 2019 Parapan American Games are an opportunity to transform and forge a better country through the emblematic values of the Paralympic Movement: Inspiration, determination, courage and equality.
Lima 2019 will leave a legacy of new sports infrastructures, designed under international standards for accessibility, something that has never been seen before. This way, Peruvian Para athletes will have adequate facilities for their training and competitions.
It should be noted that the César Vallejo school, in the district of La Victoria, has a population of 1840 students at the preschool, primary and secondary levels. This school has 29 students with impairments.
ABOUT THE PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place between August 23 and September 1, 2019. Thirteen Para sports are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
