LIMA 2019: LIMA 2019 CULTURAYMI PROGRAM WILL BE FREE TO WATCH THE BEST PERUVIAN ARTISTS

Lima and Peru are preparing for an unforgettable experience, not only organizing the largest multisport celebration of the Americas, but also the greatest cultural program, where all Peruvians and tourists will watch the best artwork and music shows.

Juan Antonio Silva, Lima 2019 Communications, Commercial and Marketing manager, gave details of this program, starting on July 27 at the Parque de la Exposición de Lima, that will open its doors to everyone for free.

The “Culturaymi” is the cultural program of Lima 2019: The Games are not only sport but also culture. We announced the 46 winners of the five categories of the Lima 2019 public call, which included music, performing arts, visual arts, art for social transformation and clothing design. Winners were evaluated by jury of experts, who volunteered following the ‘Let’s all Play’ spirit,” said Silva on a radio interview.

Juan Antonio Silva said there were over 400 cultural projects submitted to be part of the program. “There are great artists among the winners, such as Teresa Fuller, daughter of Chabuca Granda; and well-known Peruvian creole music artists like Victoria Villalobos and Los Mirlos, who auditioned as if they were new artists. Everyone will have the chance to enjoy their music for free at the Parque de la Exposición since 27 July. Lima expects to receive around a million visitors, eager to see the best of Peruvian music, theater, video art, photography, clothing designs,” he said.

EXHIBITION OF CUCHIMILCOS

The Lima 2019 Communications, Commercial and Marketing manager commented that there will also be areas to enjoy cuisine and for other countries exhibitions, like the UK. The “Culturaymi” program will be uploaded to the Lima 2019 website (www.lima2019.pe). Meanwhile, a cultural circuit will take place throughout the city. “Public and private organizations have joined the initiative. Like the “Mueseo hecho a Mano” of Miraflores, which on July 11 will begin the exhibition of Cuchimilcos, figurines which inspired the design of Milco, the Lima 2019 mascot,” commented Silva.

“It's a great opportunity to show who we are and the best of our culture to 400 million people worldwide. This will help us show our society’s organization. After all, at the opening ceremony, Peru will be the on the spotlight. It will be a spectacular show with people, artists and fireworks, prior to the Bicentenary anniversary. As for the “Culturaymi”, this program aims to show, in 38 days, the best of the country,” he stated.

Silva also said that Lima 2019 has provided areas to foster commerce in all venues so that everyone can buy official products like Milco, the Games mascot. He highlighted that Lima 2019 is the biggest sporting event in Peru’s history and will be a world-class event. “Olympic class representatives of USA, Canada, Jamaica, Cuba, Brazil, will compete to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Tickets go from 20 PEN and 10 PEN for children, senior citizens and people with impairments,” he added.

CULTURAL PROGRAM

Culturaymi, is the cultural program –in parallel to the Games– that will show the national and international community the various expressions and artistic scopes coexisting in our country, combining them with the Games values.

These are the number of artists chosen in the five categories –where over 400 people entered through the Lima 2019 website–: Art workshops for social transformation (8), clothing design (5); visual arts exhibitions (2); entertainment performing arts (18) and music shows (13).

Teresa Fuller Granda, daughter of composer and singer Chabuca Granda Granda is among the selected artists; who along with the singer, Ezequiel Rocha from Argentina, will present the record documentary show “Con alma de Chabuca Granda”.

In addition, members of the cultural group “La Casa de Tespis”, Gonzalo Talavera Francisco Silva Santisteban and Andrea Fernandez, whose play project “El monstruo de los mares” (The sea monster) seeks to raise awareness about protecting the environment, showed their enthusiasm.

Lima will experience a culture and sports celebration for 38 days. The Lima 2019 Cultural Program was created to share and celebrate Peru's creativity and cultural heritage.

The Cultural Program will have a venue and cultural circuit. The Cultural venue will house various cultural events such as workshops, exhibitions, concerts, shows, crafts, food and more. It will be in the Parque de la Exposición from July 27 to August 10, and from August 24 to 31, and access will be free.

On the other hand, the Cultural Circuit proposes an outstanding tour for over 10 districts that have the largest range of cultural activities, exhibitions and shows, to compose a diverse and attractive tour schedule.
