SAN MARCOS STADIUM IS READY FOR THE OPENING OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN U-17 CHAMPIONSHIP

Lima 2019 left the San Marcos Stadium ready for the South American U-17 Championship that starts this afternoon with an interesting double for the group A. Venezuela and Ecuador play early this afternoon and Peru and Chile will close the session.

This scenario will also be the football venue during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Competitions of this discipline will take place from July 28 to August 10, both for men’s and women’s categories. Competition days will be interspersed between the two categories.

Both tournaments will be played in a level 1 synthetic grass field, is surrounded by an eight-lanes athletic track, four fixed grandstands, a VIP box, a press area, four dressing rooms for athletes, an exclusive entrance and exit for buses of football players. In addition, it has warehouses for sports equipment.

Hugo Figueredo, competition director of the South American Football Confederation and main leaders of the Peruvian Football Federation will attend the opening day of the South American U-17 Championship. Likewise, authorities of the National University of San Marcos and Milco, the mascot of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, will be attending the event.

The South American tournament consists of two groups of five teams each. Bolivia joins Peru, Chile, Venezuela and Ecuador for group A. While Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil complete group B. From this stage, the best three teams will qualify to the six teams final group.

Of course, if Brazil is among the best four in the final ranking, it will allow the fifth place to gain access to the World Cup in Brazil. The tournament will be held from March 21 to April 14 at the San Marcos Stadium, which was remodeled to be one of the main venues of Lima 2019.
